ABOUT THE NAME

According to the Greek Mythology, Agapenor was the son of the Arcadian King Ancaeus and one of the suitors of beautiful Helen, who eventually married the Spartan King Menelaus. When Paris, a Trojan Prince, kidnapped her, Agamemnon, the King of Mycenae, brother of Menelaus and leader of the Greeks in the Trojan War, offered Agapenor 60 ships to join him and other Greek Kings in the war against Troy. After ten years of unsuccessful siege on the walls of Troy, the fall of the city was accomplished thanks to Ulysses and his idea to build the Trojan Horse. The renowned city of Troy was utterly destroyed, leaving the Gods angry over the destruction of their temples and other sacrilegious acts by the Achaeans. The Gods decided that most of them would never find their way home. Agapenor was one of these Achaeans that did not return home. On his way back from Troy, he was cast by a storm on the island of Cyprus, where he founded the town of Pafos and the famous temple of Aphrodite to thank the Goddess for keeping him alive.
